PV and Back up Power: Solar Electric systems use your choice of PV modules, shingles or laminates to convert the suns rays into DC electricity. The sun’s energy can then be stored in deep-cycle batteries as back up power. We can even upgrade your system to a Gridpoint connect which manages your entire renewable energy load. After the batteries are full or if you choose not to use batteries, the current is sent directly through an inverter which converts it from DC current to AC (household current). It is then tied to your main power panel and either powers your household or is sent to the grid. This is considered a grid tied application. It is the most efficient use of Solar electricity because it offsets grid power usage. You may need to complete an application for generating power, depending on what your local electric coop’s mandates are (this is also referred to as net metering). Locations vary, and you may require off grid (independent) Solar electricity, which stores all excess power in back up batteries for use when the sun goes down. It is very important to size your system for all power consumption with this application. All Solar Electric Systems qualify for various financial incentives. Currently, there is a 30% Federal Tax Credit and a 30% NC Tax Credit.

Offset Grid Power Usage

A grid tied solar electric system ties your inverter directly to the existing main power panel. This is a net metering system which, upon agreement with your local electricity co-op, is the arranged payment per kWh for generating Green power. These systems have the highest efficiencies in solar electric production. Most energy efficient homes are sized anywhere from 2kWh to 5 kWh systems. Grid Tied plus Back Up Power

This type of solar electric system is typically a grid tied system with the additional security of batteries. Many of our customers enjoy this type of solution to guarantee that when the grid goes down their electric system still runs and therefore maintain power to critical loads. There is also a very efficient load manager available by Gridpoint to control and monitor your entire renewable energy application. Don’t buy a noisy fossil fuel burning generator; install a solar backup power system instead!
