The beauty of wood with none of the drawbacks
Fiberon® composite decking materials are crafted to endure the elements and deliver lasting beauty for years to come. Inspired by nature and strengthened by technology, Fiberon captures the traditional beauty of genuine wood with none of the drawbacks.
Stands up to the weather and wear of life
Fiberon composite decking materials are made by marrying a variety of polymer resins with finely ground wood flour, plus a UV inhibitor and anti-oxidant additives that protects the boards from the elements of Mother Nature.
This special blend of wood, plastic, and additives gives Fiberon several advantages over most species of wood. It won’t crack, splinter or deteriorate. There’s nothing to stand, stain or seal. Plus it’s backed by a 20-year limited warranty.
Quality, innovation, performance
Fiber Composites, LLC began its history in New London, NC as a manufacturer of wood-plastic composite decking in 1997. Doug Mancosh, the founder and owner, initiated the business venture to develop composite products to compete in the growing market space for alternative decking materials. The company built its business under the Fiberon® brand of decking and railing promoted to traditional building material distributors and dealers along with private label programs with national retailers. After a period of rapid growth, Fiber Composites acquired the WeatherBest® manufacturing facility from Louisiana Pacific in 2007 providing bi-coastal manufacturing capacity and capability. In 2008 Fiber Composites initiated a one brand strategy for its building products distribution customer base built around the Fiberon brand.
In December 2008, Fiber Composites, LLC and Sensibuilt™ Building Solutions reached a merger agreement that joined their assets and brands to establish a leading player in the alternative decking marketplace. A primary focus of the merger was the integration of Sensibuilt cellular PVC decking under the umbrella of Fiberon branded products.
Innovation: Fiber Composites has firmly established a reputation in the alternative/composite decking market segment as an innovator. With the industry’s largest high speed extruders, the company has been a leader in new technology and design innovation.
Quality: Fiber Composites has an unblemished reputation for quality in the marketplace and has not been subject to some of the poor performance driven negative publicity generated by some competitors in the marketplace.
Market segments and distribution: In addition to marketing its products to building supply dealers and distributors in the United States, Fiber Composites exports decking and railing products in Europe and Asia.
Primary product lines: Fiberon branded products include new Horizon™ Decking with patent pending PermaTech™ Innovation and Sensibuilt™ PVC decking. Additional key brands in the Fiberon decking product group include Professional™ Premium Grain™, and Tropics®. Also featured are a wide selection of Fiberon railing products to complement its deck boards and composite fencing products promoted under the Enclave brand.
The marketplace for composite/alternative decking: The marketplace for alternative decking and outdoor living is a growing one. Even in today’s challenging economy, a recent 2008 AIA study concluded that,
"At the forefront is the growing movement toward outdoor living. This trend encompasses anything from increased emphasis on traditional outdoor elements like decks, porches, and patios, to expanded outdoor cooking areas and outdoor 'rooms.' Interest in outdoor living space has been steadily increasing: In 2005, slightly under half of surveyed residential architects saw this as a trend growing in popularity. By 2008, over two-thirds of respondents saw this as increasing in popularity."
By 2015, projections are that the average new home will have both an outdoor living space and outdoor kitchen. When added to the fact that there are estimated to be approximately 10 million decks in the U. S. that need replacement, it is clear that the alternative decking business is a growth opportunity not subject to or affected by the new residential home building market.
New industry 'game changer' products from Fiber Composites: In October of 2008, Fiber Composites introduced new Horizon decking with patent pending PermaTech innovation. Produced with a traditional composite decking core for strength, Horizon incorporates a proprietary surface material that provides unprecedented stain, scratch, and mold and fades resistance.
Following the introduction of Horizon decking, Fiber Composites introduced new Sensibuilt cellular PVC decking with patent pending Lumenite fusion-bonded coating which takes the PVC category of decking performance to a new level with exceptional stain, scratch, mold and fade resistance. Combined with the lighter weight properties of PVC decking, Sensibuilt is quickly gaining recognition as the highest performance PVC product on the market.
Fiber Composites also offers its Fiberon Horizon Plus railing system for maximum versatility and style. Available in six colors with customizable designer options, the Horizon Plus railing system offers strength and durability for a variety of railing applications.
Is it "Green"?
Does Professional Composite Decking meet green building requirements?
Yes. LEED points for recycled content and locally available materials are given where applicable. Fiberon Products are made from locally sourced, recycled materials. Over 31,000 tons of wood and plastics are also diverted from landfills and incinerators each year. Products are produced in an energy efficient, virtually waste-free manufacturing process. Fiberon products deliver long–term performance that requires no chemical preservatives, paint or stains that are common for wood decks, railing and fencing. Plus, the fully reversible boards minimize product waste during installation.
Recycled, reclaimed, remarkable
Produced in a virtually waste-free manufacturing process, Fiber Composites offers consumers durable, sustainable decking product options that save natural resources. From raw material sourcing to routine maintenance, Fiberon outdoor living products incorporate the following sustainable practices.
Use of locally-sourced, recycled materials
- Fiber Composites diverts millions of tons of wood and plastics from landfills and incinerators each year.
- Fiberon composite decking products consist of 51% recycled content, 28% reclaimed product and 21% virgin materials.
- All recycled content is sourced within 500 miles of our manufacturing facilities.
- Our composite decking products are made from recycled, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic (milk jugs, shampoo and laundry detergent bottles). HDPE has higher tensile strength for denser, durable products that also withstand higher temperatures better than poorer performing low density polyethylene (LDPE).
- We combine with the HDPE with reclaimed wood flour, acquired from window trim, door frames, lumber and cabinet waste. HDPE encapsulates the wood protecting it from harsh weather, warping, splintering and decay.
Energy efficient, virtually waste-free manufacturing
- 98.5% of all material waste is recovered from our manufacturing processes.
- The use of closed loop water cooling systems allow for zero water discharge.
Contributor to high performance green buildings
- Fiberon composite decking products count towards LEED points and other green building programs for recycled content.
- Designed for easier installation — 40% fewer screws reduce installation time 30%.
Safe for your Home and for the environment
- All products are urea formaldehyde-free.
- No toxic chemicals are used in the manufacture of Fiberon products.
A durable performer — year after year
- Fiberon products deliver long-term performance that requires no chemical preservatives, paint or stains that are common for wood decks, railing and fencing.
