Green EBoardGreen E-Board™ is a better environmental alternative and upgrade to replace gypsum drywall and cement backer boards for walls, floors and counter tops. Meets and exceeds, IRC, ASTM and ANSI

  1. Highest flame and smoke rating
  2. Water Resistant; not affected by moisture
  3. Naturally Mold and Mildew Resistant
  4. Sound rated

Guaranteed to not buckle, swell or expand Green E-Board™ can be installed as a finished wall panel by installing smooth side out. Install rough side out for tile installations.

Green E-Board™ is an ecological alternative to gypsum, wood, and cement based building products.

RoughingGreenEboard™ is manufactured with a patent pending process and formula, using primary components of magnesium oxide and magnesium chloride. The manufacturing process uses less than 50% of the energy consumed to make a comparable Portland cement based wall board. GreenEboard contains a minimum of 5% transferred post-industrial recycled material, and 100% of our manufacturing post-industrial waste is recycled into future production runs.

No raw materials or scrap materials are ever wasted or put into a landfill. GreenEboard™ may contribute to LEED credits MR8, minimum EQ, EQ 3.1 (EQ plan during construction) and MR4.1, (materials with recycled content).

GreenEboard™ is manufactured in Asia, and shipped to you on large container ships. Research has shown that the carbon footprint of shipping one pallet of GreenEboard to the USA is approximately equivalent to driving the same pallet about 25 miles in a pickup truck to the jobsite.

InstallationGreenEboard™ is non-nutrient for fungus when tested under ASTM D3273, because of its high content of magnesium oxide and magnesium chloride. In other words, it naturally will not grow mold or mildew, solving one of the biggest issues of construction in wet areas such as showers and tub surrounds. In addition, GreenEboard™ contains no VOCs or harmful silica, making it safe for the installer as well as the end-user. GreenEboard™ has been successfully used in construction for the chemically sensitive.

GreenEboard™ is waterproof. It will not swell, delaminate, warp, or disintegrate when exposed to a wet environment. Remarkably, GreenEboard™ is also water vapor permeable. This allows GreenEboard™ to be used as a wall-board in construction where breathable walls are specified.

GreenEboard™ received the Class 1 or Class A flame and smoke rating when tested under ASTM E84. This means that it does not contribute fuel to a fire, and does not produce flame or smoke when exposed to fire. In international testing, 1/2” GreenEboard™ has been approved as part of a two hour fire assembly.

GreenEBoard™ is made of proprietary and patent pending technology.

InstallationGreenEBoard™ is made of proprietary and patent pending technology. Ingredients include Magnesium Oxide, Magnesium Chloride as the primary components, with additional natural mineral components such as perlite, and woven and non-woven strengthening fibers.

Why Choose GreenEBoard™ for your next tile project?

GreenEBoard™ installs with conventional fasteners and can be scored and snapped with a regular utility knife. Portland cement based backer boards and fiber cement boards require special tools. Conventional screws typically will not countersink into these boards. The installer must buy special screws, or must pre drill the board to achieve countersunk fastener heads. GreenEboard weighs 50% per square foot less than other cement boards, making it easier to handle. Remodelers who have to work in tight spaces especially appreciate GreenEboard’s ease of installation. GreenEboard is non-nutrient for mold and mildew, without added chemicals.

GreenEBoard™ contains NO silica.

GreenEBoard™ contains no harmful silica. Backer boards that contain silica are a health hazard to the installer. Please read our competitor’s warning labels before handling.

GreenEBoard™ will not warp, swell, delaminate or disintegrate when exposed to moisture, unlike gypsum based backer boards. Some gypsum based backer boards are manufactured with a built in vapor barrier to prevent the problem, but if the vapor barrier is compromised, the gypsum will still be affected by the moisture.

When tested under ASTM C-627, GreenEBoard™ received the highest rating of “extra heavy”, meaning it can be installed as a tile backer under the most demanding conditions like food plants, industrial kitchens, and other high impact areas.

GreenEBoard™ is the ideal backer board for tubs, showers, floors, outdoor kitchens, fireplace surrounds receiving stone or brick veneer, and much, much more.

Additional Applications

In addition to using GreenEBoard™ as a tile backer for walls and floors, it can also be used for exterior applications such as soffit cladding, as an exterior sheathing behind stucco applications when structural strength is not required for the exterior sheathing, as an interior or exterior skin for SIP panels, in homes where breathable walls are desired, for fireplace surrounds, as wall board for those who are chemically sensitive, and as a mold resistant and flame rated paneling in mobile and manufactured homes.

Green E-Board™ can be easily installed as a finished wall panel by using the smooth side as a finished wall.

We recommend that you use a good primer as a base coat since it is has an alkaline base and may react to some specialized paints.

Steel or wood framing should be spaced no greater than 16” o.c. without blocking, 24” o.c. with blocking when using ½” Green E-Board™. Always follow local building codes

Use a vapor barrier for wet applications

When using Green E-Board™ as an underlayment use a dry-set or latex-cement mortar to bond Green E-Board™ to sub floor.

Fasteners should be spaced 6” o.c. for walls and ceilings for both wood and metal framing. Drive fasteners flush with surface.

Under tile and stone use a 2” 10x10 glass fiber mesh tape embedded in a skim coat of a polymer modified thinset. Caulk or seal joints.

What makes GreenEboard™ Green?

  1. Compared to conventional cementitious backer boards, GreenEboard requires less than half the energy to produce, making a much lower carbon impact on the environment.
  2. GreenEboard™ weighs less than conventional backer boards, meaning more material can be shipped per truckload, again lowering the carbon footprint.
  3. 100% of the post-industrial waste in the GreenEboard™ plant is recycled into future production runs, reducing landfill impact. External recycled content is also added. The total of post-industrial recycled content is certified at 30%. LEED credits accept 50% of post-industrial waste, making the LEED content 15%.
  4. GreenEboard™ contains no harmful ingredients such as VOCs, formaldehyde, asbestos, or silica dust, and it will not grow mold or mildew. It contributes to a healthier indoor environment.
  5. GreenEboard™ contains no ingredients that are harmful to the planet when it is disposed of. The natural materials in GreenEboard™ scraps are completely inert.
