From its beginnings in 1893 as a single sawmill, Temple-Inland has been dedicated to manufacturing outstanding products to meet customer needs.
Temple Inland supplies solid wood lumber, gypsum board and fiberboard products for residential and commercial construction projects. Whether for new construction or remodeling, do-it-yourselfers or professionals, the expanding product line provides a range of solutions to today’s building challenges.
Temple-Inland manufactures a full line of quality gypsum board products for fast, cost-efficient wall construction in both residential and commercial applications. Available in a range of dimensions and with a choice of special performance properties, this is one of its fastest growing product lines.
Made in the U.S.A. Temple-Inland has never imported any gypsum wallboard from China. Its full line of gypsum products is manufactured at facilities that they own and operate in the United States under their high quality standards. Temple Inland has a long history in this industry and has never received any complaints similar to the ones currently in the news attributed to Chinese wallboard.
GreenGlass fiberglass-faced gypsum board is our premium interior panel. It was designed to provide the highest level of mold and moisture protection combined with an exceptionally high percentage of recycled content. Ideal for the construction of a range of wall, ceiling and decorative accent structures in both residential and commercial applications, it sets a whole new standard of performance and environmental value.
Benefits
GreenGlass delivers the perfect combination of mold protection and recycled content that’ll satisfy the most demanding project requirements. It can be used in a broad range of wall, ceiling and decorative accent structures and is ideal for higher moisture areas where paper-faced board is not an option.
Superior Mold and Moisture Resistance
In addition to the natural mold resistance of its glass mat facers, GreenGlass offers the added benefit of the TemShield Mold Protection System engineered into its enhanced gypsum core. Click here for more information about mold and moisture resistance.
High Green Building System Value
Manufactured with an SCS-certified recycled material content of at least 90%, GreenGlass can contribute significant credits towards a project’s green rating system certification.
Added Fire Resistance
Because it’s a gypsum board product, GreenGlass is naturally noncombustible. It’s also available with a type X core formula for added protection and U.L.-approved use in multiple fire-rated assemblies.
6-Month Exposure Warranty
Temple-Inland offers a 6-month limited warranty on GreenGlass fiberglass-faced gypsum board subject to the terms, conditions and exclusions.
Easier to Install and Finish
Engineered with improved fiberglass encapsulation, GreenGlass gypsum board is easier to handle and install – plus it delivers a smoother surface for improved finishability over traditional glass mat gypsum boards.

GreenGlass is ideal for higher moisture areas where paper-faced board is not an option. Produced with the TemShield® Mold Protection System engineered into its gypsum core, GreenGlass is faced on both sides with naturally mold-resistant fiberglass mats. It scored a 10, the highest value possible, when tested in accordance with ASTM D3273, the standard test for mold resistance. Its water absorption of less than 10 percent was tested in accordance with ASTM C473.

Note: The ASTM D3273 lab test may not be applicable to the actual performance of building materials. No material may be labeled mold proof, and resistance to mold growth depends on many factors. Prolonged exposure to moisture may cause mold and mildew to grow on any surface. Therefore, in order to maximize the mold and mildew resistance of a material, it is essential that good design, handling and construction practices be implemented. This involves avoiding water exposure during all phases of storage, handling, shipping, installation and beyond.
GreenGlass gypsum board has been tested in accordance with ASTM E119 and therefore may provide a fire-resistance rating of one or more hours, depending upon the U.L.-approved assembly in which it is applied. See our Fire-Resistant Gypsum Board page for more information.
Temple-Inland gypsum board products are third-party certified by Materials Analytical Services, LLC (MAS) to meet the performance standard established for low-emitting materials under the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) Program.
In emissions level testing for carbon disulfide and carbonyl sulfide conducted by Materials Analytical Services (MAS), Temple-Inland gypsum board was determined to be negative for sulfur off-gassing and is not considered a problematic corrosive drywall type.
Gypsum board should be carried, never dragged, to prevent damaging the finished edges. When storing gypsum boards, store them indoors and protect them from weather and direct sunlight. Boards should be stored lying flat and neatly stacked. Care should be taken to prevent sagging or damage to edges, ends and surfaces. Placing boards against framing is not recommended.
The use of certified Temple-Inland gypsum board can contribute toward credits in the following green construction rating system categories.
GreenGlass is SCS certified in accordance with ISO 14021 standards to have over 90 percent recycled content on a dry-weight basis.
| LEED-NC: | MR credit 4 | Recycled Content awards 1 or 2 points for using products with recycled content that constitute at least 10% or 20%, based on cost, of the total value of project materials. |
| MR credit 5 | Local/Regional Materials awards 1 or 2 points for using materials on a project that are extracted and manufactured within 500 miles that constitute at least 10% or 20%, based on cost, of the total value of project materials. | |
| NAHB Green Building Standards: | NAHB 604.1(2) | Pre-Consumer Recycled Content specifies the use of recycled content products in major areas such as walls, floors, insulation and roofing. |
| 2009 LEED for Schools: | IEQ credit 4.6 | Ceiling and Wall Systems awards 1 point if all gypsum board meets the testing and product requirements of the California Department of Health Services Standard Practice for the Testing of Volatile Organic Emissions. |
