From its beginnings in 1893 as a single sawmill, Temple-Inland has been dedicated to manufacturing outstanding products to meet customer needs.
Temple Inland supplies solid wood lumber, gypsum board and fiberboard products for residential and commercial construction projects. Whether for new construction or remodeling, do-it-yourselfers or professionals, the expanding product line provides a range of solutions to today’s building challenges.
Temple-Inland manufactures a full line of quality gypsum board products for fast, cost-efficient wall construction in both residential and commercial applications. Available in a range of dimensions and with a choice of special performance properties, this is one of its fastest growing product lines.
Made in the U.S.A. Temple-Inland has never imported any gypsum wallboard from China. Its full line of gypsum products is manufactured at facilities that they own and operate in the United States under their high quality standards. Temple Inland has a long history in this industry and has never received any complaints similar to the ones currently in the news attributed to Chinese wallboard.
StructGuard TS is the structural gypsum sheathing that also simplifies application, maximizes moisture, mold and fire resistance and provides exceptional cost efficiency and stability. All in addition to delivering code-recognized wall bracing strength.
Benefits
StructGuard TS is for builders, framers and architects who know they need wall-bracing strength to meet code, but want a better alternative than OSB or plywood. It’s a material that gives you the green light to a job well done.
Ease of Installation:
StructGuard TS is easy to install. Available in a standard 4-foot width, it comes in lengths of 8, 9, 10 and 12 feet to cover large areas fast. Framers can hang entire walls before coming back to cut openings, saving even more time and labor. That’s because StructGuard TS is also easy to cut. Simply score and snap it using nothing more than a utility knife. In addition, each board carries markings indicating stud spacings at 16" o.c. and 24" o.c.
Mold and Moisture Resistance:
StructGuard TS directly addresses one of the biggest headaches in building today– mold. Manufactured with the enhanced anti-microbial benefits of our TemShield mold protection system in its facers and core, StructGuard TS resists the development of mold and mildew that can lead to costly repairs as well as callbacks. Its exterior facer is specially designed to resist outside moisture intrusion without limiting interior moisture permeability. This helps keep the wall cavity dry by allowing water vapor to escape through the sheathing and reduces the chance of moisture-related damage.
Structural Strength:
Structural gypsum sheathing is referenced in the IRC, IBC, UBC, SBC and NBC as a code-recognized structural wall bracing material when manufactured according to the product standard ASTM 1396. StructGuard TS meets this standard. Every sheet of material is printed with a clear acknowledgment of this fact.
Fire Resistance:
Like all gypsum products, StructGuard TS offers an added measure of fire-resistance because of its naturally non-combustible composition. Our 5/8-inch-thick panels are UL approved for use in a range of fire-rated assemblies.
StructGuard TS adds productivity, protection and profit to every project. It’s your green light to a job well done.

StructGuard TS has the TemShield Mold Protection system, which provides a significant degree of mold resistance compared to untreated panels as per ASTM D3273, the standard test of mold resistance, and scored a 10 out of a possible 10 in laboratory evaluations.
StructGuard TS structural sheathing features enhanced moisture resistance and the addition of anti-microbial protection. In addition, the permeability of StructGuard TS helps keep the wall cavity dry by allowing condensed water vapor to escape through the sheathing and further reducing the chance of mold- and moisture-related damage.
Each panel is composed of an enhanced mold- and water-resistant core encased in mold- and water-resistant facers on both sides. StructGuard TS has the TemShield Mold Protection system, which provides a significant degree of mold resistance compared to untreated panels.
StructGuard TS was tested for mold resistance per ASTM D3273,* the standard test of mold resistance, and scored a 10 out of a possible 10 in laboratory evaluations. Its resistance to water absorption was tested per ASTM C473. And it was shown to resist water penetration, as tested per ASTM E331, when installed using foil tapes (Polyken 626-35 and 4" Window Wrap by MFM Building Products) along all exposed joints.
*Note: The ASTM D3273 lab test may not be applicable to the actual performance of building materials. No material may be labeled mold proof, and resistance to mold growth depends on many factors. Prolonged exposure to moisture may cause mold and mildew to grow on any surface. Therefore, in order to maximize the mold and mildew resistance of a material, it is essential that good design, handling and construction practices be implemented. This involves avoiding water exposure during all phases of storage, handling, shipping, installation and after installation is complete. See GA238 for more information.
This material has been fire tested in accordance with the requirements of ASTM E119 and therefore may provide a fire rating of one or more hours, depending on the system in which it is applied. Because ASTM procedures require that fire tests be conducted on complete building assemblies/systems and not just on the board itself, the ability of any particular 5/8" Type X gypsum board to pass a specific ASTM fire test may well depend on factors other than the fire resistance of the gypsum board being tested. See more details about the fire-resistant properties of 5/8" Type X panels like StructGuard TS
Gypsum board should be carried, never dragged, to prevent damaging the finished edges. When storing gypsum boards, store them indoors and protect them from weather and direct sunlight. Boards should be stored lying flat and neatly stacked. Care should be taken to prevent sagging or damage to edges, ends and surfaces. Placing boards against framing is not recommended.
